PERSONAL BLOG CBPC Etsy Generous-Xailesta TUMBLR Stemming off from this hot mess of a rant...
There is a time, and a place to hawk out your wares like this. And its not through notes on an art website. Especially when said site features forums for
obtaining work and/or
advertising your work to get exposure. There are even websites out there that you can use to offer commissions on a wider scale beyond deviantArt. Tumblr is one, TeenyCom on LiveJournal is another.
But WHEN do you hawk, you ask? Face to face settings. Like the Artist Alley of a fan convention. Its not seen as annoying spam, its seen as trying to actually make a sale. Its the appropriate environment for such a thing, you get me?
Also... pricing. PRICING PRICING PRICING gosh darnit. Don't sell yourself short.
I am NOT a fan of commissions via points, due to the culture surrounding points and the unsaid assumption by many that its 1 point to 1 dollar (nope nope nope!).
But if you have to take commissions via points, 10 points for a fullbody commission is highway robbery. That's 12.5 cents(I know on tumblr I said 1.5 I wrongly rounded up) for what? An hour of work? US Federal min. wage is $7.25! You're not even making a legitimate quarter... you're working for HALF OF A QUARTER.
That kind of pricing makes my skin -crawl-, and its the same kind of Dollar Menu pricing that has many non-art people wanting to use and abuse artists.
Don't do it.
Opt for cash sales. Don't like Paypal? Use WePay and/or Google Wallet when possible. But seriously if one HAS to use points... remember 1 point is 1.25 cents. 125 points is 1 USD. 907 points is roughly 7.25 USD.
Now go and attempt to be fruitful... at a fair wage.
